Since the 1960s, Mrs. Crawford has redeveloped more than 800,000 square feet of historic property in the City of Denver including the Oxford Hotel, the Acme Lofts, the Edbrooke Lofts and Cooper Flats Condominiums. She completed Phase One of the Flour Mill Lofts project, converting an abandoned flour mill into unique loft spaces designed for the sophisticated urbanite. Mrs. Crawford has been steadfast in her belief that core cities can be made livable again. Today, in partnership with her son Jack Crawford, she is developing Prospect Park, a mixed-use, master planned village in Denver’s Central Platte Valley.

After completing the Larimer Square project, Crawford started work on Union Station neighborhood. She also worked on preservation of the Oxford Hotel, LoDo's Millennium retail office project, two Flour Mill Loft redevelopment ventures, the Ice House, Coors Field, and others. In 1996, she was inducted into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame for her preservation and development of downtown Denver. The Flour Mill Loft Project, completed in 1999, was one of Crawford's personal favorites, as it was "the first residential project in the Platte Valley".

In 2008, several investors got together and a plan was formed to design, finance and build a transit system linked to Union Station. The station itself was accepting proposals and Crawford put together a team, which they called the Union Station Alliance, to make a bid. They won the project in December 2011 and a 99-year lease on the station and set about obtaining approval from the National Park Service to make alterations to the historic site. After a year, approval was attained, and the development got underway. In 2013, the hotel within Union Station, was named the Crawford Hotel in Crawford's honor as a way to recognize her contributions to the revitalization of downtown Denver. The renovation has received numerous prestigious awards including the 2015 Urban Land Institute Global Award for Excellence and Downtown Colorado, Inc., 2015 Governor’s Awards for Downtown Excellence – Best Adaptive Reuse or Rehabilitation.

Expertise: Urban Design and Development/Historical Preservation

Award-winning preservationist Dana Crawford initiated a concept of urban renewal that was one of the first of its kind in the United States. She pioneered the redevelopment of Denver’s historic Larimer Square in the mid-1960s, creating a festival shopping area from the neglected and abandoned buildings of Denver’s original main street. Today, Larimer Square serves as a prototype for the revitalization of forgotten main streets and architectural landmarks throughout the country.
